Senior teams take top spots at DMA competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Senior Tap Team took the top Overall Highest Score for all groups 13 and over. The group also won Second Overall and Forth Overall with a routine where they combined with the Mini Team. “Bad Boy” was the top score, featuring Nora Contreras, Aliyha Mullins, Juliet Taft, Luke Umphlett and Lindy Wicklund. This number also was awarded the Most Entertaining Number of the Day.
“Bad Boy” was choreographed and taught by Missy Fincher. “I Feel Good” was the Second Highest Score of the Day and was choreographed by Casey Shehan. Shehan also choreographed the Forth Highest Score of the Day, “Get Happy”. This was a jazz routine where the Senior Team combined with the Mini Team to perform lots of lifts and tricks. Featured dancers were Clancey Coley, Nora Contreras, Ada Kelley, Aliyha Mullins, Gracy Roberts, Bethany Smith, Juliet Taft and Lindy Wicklund.
Winning the Highest Solo of the Day for ages 13 and over was Luke Umphlett. Umphlett performed a tap routine to “Swing Set”. Placing in the 12 and under Solos were Bethany Smith and Ada Kelley. Smith placed seventh Overall with her tap routine, “The Candyman” and Kelley placed eighth Overall with her tap routine, “The Locomotion”. Both girls are 8 years old.
Gold winners from the weekend included, “Sweet Dreams” (Senior Jazz team), “Hot Chocolate” and “I Want Candy” (Mini Tap and Jazz team), Bethany Smith (Acro/Jazz solo), Ada Kelley (Jazz solo), Gracie Lance (Tap solo), Madison Yellen (Clogging solo) and Stevie Reed (Clogging solo). The Mini Team won Best Costume for their tap costumes to “Hot Chocolate”. The Mini Team consists of Clancey Coley, Ada Kelley, Gracy Roberts, and Bethany Smith.
High Silver Winners include, Hannah Watkins (Tap solo), Juliet Taft (Contemporary solo), Kati Shanahan (Jazz Solo), Cheyenne Jennings (Jazz solo), and “Chocolatte” and “Ice Cream Man” (Junior Tap and Jazz Team). The Junior Competition Teams consists of Cheyenne Jennings, Gracie Lance, Kati Shanahan, Hannah Watkins, and Maggie Wilson.
Dance Masters of South Carolina features master classes for the students to participate in before the actual competition. All students participated in classes in tap, jazz, ballet and hip-hop. Instructor, Missy Fincher, is certified by test to teach dance through Dance Masters of America. Fincher was elected Secretary of the club at the annual meeting, also held during the competition weekend.
