Have you ever been told you should write about your life? Everyone has a story to tell, and whether you want to leave a legacy for your grandchildren or simply celebrate the individuals and events that shaped your life, recording your memories can be very rewarding.

Those who want to get away from daily distractions and need a few gentle nudges to get started, veteran life writing workshop facilitator Robin A. Edgar’s tenth annual Life Writing Retreat may be what is needed.

Located at Wildacres Retreat, adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway and thousands of acres of the Pisgah National Forest in Little Switzerland, N.C., the retreat is a magical place to get away from it all and still enjoy all the comforts of home.

Edgar is offering special discounts in celebration of her the 10th anniversary of her writing retreat this October 3 – 5. Women residing in Western N.C. who are 21 years of age or older, and returning participants are eligible to receive discounts. Qualified applicants need to apply to Ms. Edgar in writing and register in full by the registration deadline of Sept. 5, 2014 for any discount to be applied.

A lifestyle journalist and storyteller for over 35 years, Edgar shares her expertise in reminiscence writing, based on her book, “In My Mother’s Kitchen: An Introduction to the Healing Power of Reminiscence,” at various venues around the country.

In N.C., she has conducted life writing at the prestigious John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown; the Novello Festival in Charlotte; the Writer’s Workshop in Asheville; and the Lanier Library in Tryon.

“I have had a wonderful journey helping people discover the stories about individuals and incidents that shaped their lives. When people reflect on their past, they see the difference they have made and the lemons that have turned to lemonade,” says Edgar.

Writers of all skill levels are welcome to register for five interactive workshop sessions to help them get started or to organize what they’ve already written.

In order to give participants full attention, the class size is limited to 10 participants. The fee for this weekend retreat also includes five meals and a double-occupancy room for two nights.
