Do you have pesticides at your home or farm that are outdated or you no longer need or use?
If your answer is yes, then you should be interested in the Henderson County Pesticide Collection Day to be held on Wednesday, July 30.
The Henderson County Cooperative Extension Center, in cooperation with the N.C. Department of Agriculture will offer this Pesticide Collection Day for residents in Henderson County and all of our surrounding N.C. counties, which includes Polk.
The Henderson County Extension Center is located at 100 Jackson Park Road in Hendersonville. The Collection will be from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Jackson Park ball fields 8 and 9.
Nearly all pesticide products will be accepted at this collection event, including banned and outdated pesticides. For pesticide containers with unreadable or missing labels, contact the Cooperative Extension Center for instructions.
Save any portion of the label to help identify the material so you can be assisted with disposal.
Unknown pesticide products or household products such as paint thinners cannot be accepted.
For any pesticide containers greater than 5 gallons in size, contact the Henderson Extension Office before the Collection Day for special instructions and information at 828-693-4891.
Each year the NCDA Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program travels to 40 or 50 N.C. counties to collect unwanted and unused pesticides.
This means that a Collection Day of this kind only happens once every other year in the county. Polk County sponsored a similar event in fall of 2013 and collected 2,634 lbs. of unwanted pesticides.
Don’t miss this opportunity to dispose of these products at no cost to the participants.
