Gettin’ down with One Leg Up

Asheville based, “gypsy swing” band, One Leg Up will perform at “Top of the Grade Concerts” at McCreery Park in historic downtown Saluda on Friday, June 27 from 7 – 9 p.m.
One Leg Up will stir it up with swing and gypsy jazz. Based in Asheville, the band performs a vibrant mixture of upbeat Gypsy Jazz, Latin, Swing and original jazz compositions and is a favorite of club, concert and festival stages throughout the southeastern United States. Locally, they have performed at the Saluda Arts Festival, Summer Tracks in Roger’s Park and the Purple Onion on many occasions.
“One Leg Up’s originality also stems from the group being “collective stars”.
Like an astute big band, One Leg Up’s musicians are equally luminescent. At any moment a violin, guitar or clarinet would take center stage, creating a stir.
Also, the twin guitars of John Stineman and Jim Tanner revamped those bygone Django chords first strummed in pre-WWII Parisian clubs. And they can sing.
Top of the Grade concerts are coordinated by the City of Saluda’s Small Town Main Street program and funding for the Friday night concerts has been through a community grant from Polk County Community Foundation. All concerts are free to the public thanks to a Free Community Events grant.
Concertgoers should bring their own chairs or blankets. Food, soft drinks, beer and wine, and coolers are allowed. No food will be available to purchase at the park, but all of Saluda’s delicious restaurants will be open serving everything from hamburgers and pizzas to gourmet meals. Events are rain or shine and rain events may move to the Pavilion.
Concerts are scheduled for the second and fourth Fridays through September. All performances will be held on the Ella Grace Mintz Stage from 7 – 9 p.m. at McCreery Park.
