Ah. Spring is in the air and cookout season is finally here. The Kansas City Barbeque Society’s own Great American Cookout is out on its eighth tour across the nation, bringing cooking demonstrations and delicious samples conveniently to 20 of the biggest contests and festivals in the country, plus 50 favorite retail locations across the United States.
The Great American Cookout is coming to Tryon on June 13-14 at Harmon Field.
The Great American Cookout is back on the road, ready to share tasty recipes and give professional cooking tips to help bring backyard-grilling skills up to par with the pros.
“Regions, states and even cities will vary in favorite pastimes, but there seems to be a commonality found in sharing great food with friends and family,” said Carolyn Wells, executive director of the Kansas City Barbeque Society. “The Great American Cookout is designed to enhance those moments.”
Attending a Great American Cookout event will get you the know-how, but you’re going to need top of the line grill gear to accompany your skills. This year, the Great American Cookout will be hosting the BBQ Getaway Giveaway sweepstakes.
The giveaways are centered on America’s favorite grilling holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. The end-of-year winner will be the recipient of a BBQ Celebrity Bash in their backyard, complete with food, entertainment and an appearance by a celebrity barbecue personality. Holiday giveaways throughout the year will include a Big Green Egg cooker, plus products and grilling accessories from tour partners.
The BBQ Guru, inventors of the temperature control system, are teaming up with KCBS and traveling alongside of 10 select Great American Cookout tour stops to present the inaugural BBQ Guru Challenge. Competitors at Blue Ridge BBQ and Music Festival in Tryon have the opportunity to put their ‘que to the ultimate test in exchange for bonus cash prizes and bragging rights to boot.
