Christine Gibbs Searcy, 80, of Hwy. 9 North, Mill Spring, N.C. died Tuesday June 10, 2014 in the Hospice House of Carolina Foothills, Landrum, S.C.
Born in Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn W. and Maude McMurray Gibbs. She was the widow of the late James Major “Mack” Searcy who died in 2012.
Christine had been employed with C. P. Clare in Fairview, N.C. for 12 years, for Polk County Schools for 5 years, and drove a van with Polk County Transportation for several years.
Surviving are: a son, Philip Ray Searcy (Janet) of Forest City, NC and a daughter, Betty Searcy Connor of Forest City, N.C. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Katrina Searcy, Haley Searcy and Ashley Lee. Also surviving is a great-grandson, Romeo Bravo. She was preceded in death by a son, Tony Searcy who died in l970.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 in Coopers Gap Baptist Church, Mill Spring, NC with Rev. John Godfrey, Rev. Don Hollifield and Rev. Warren Elliott officiating.
Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday night in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C.
