Tellico along with local favorites Phil & Gaye Johnson open the 2014 Summer Tracks Concert Series. Sponsored by Heartwood Gallery and The Purple Onion of Saluda, the show takes place in Rogers Park in Tryon, June 6 at 7 p.m.
Opening the evening, Phil & Gaye Johnson represent the very best of the new tradition in today’s “Americana” Country music. With over twenty years of dedicated artistry, Phil & Gaye offer a unique blend of traditional and contemporary Folk, Bluegrass and Country music along with generous portions of Western Swing, Cowboy, Blues and Old-Time traditions. They are prolific songwriters and storytellers, and they travel from their home in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina to perform throughout the United States.
Tellico is a fine product of Asheville, N.C.’s thriving Roots Music scene, its members well schooled in Bluegrass but with an unbridled organic Appalachiacana sound. Tellico’s members bring their talents from one of Asheville’s most successful Bluegrass bands, Dehlia Low, to this new project. Formed this year, Tellico features the singing and songwriting of Anya Hinkle (guitar, fiddle) and Stig Stiglets (bass, harmonica), with Aaron Ballance on dobro and Jed Willis on mandolin and clawhammer banjo. Well known for their rootsy, authentic singing and vocal harmony, as well as the hard-edged nostalgic yet modern themes of their songwriting, the quartet combines some of the finest voices, songs and instrumental prowess in western North Carolina and beyond.
As with all Summer Tracks concerts, the show is free, though a voluntary donation at the gate is encouraged. Audience donations along with the generous sponsorships of local businesses and individuals make these shows possible. JR’s wood-fired pizzas, ice cream, water and soft drinks will be for sale.
Summer Tracks is produced by the Town of Tryon in affiliation with Peter Eisenbrown of Blockparty Productions. The popular and well-attended series attracts people from all over the region.
