Lotus (Williams) Bradley Plott, the guest speaker at the June 3 meeting of the Polk County Historical Association, was listed by trade journals as the only female lumber wholesaler in the world for 35 years. At the age of 17, she was the manager of the local Western Union office and remembers the kindness of Margaret Calkin Banning, Lady Astor (of England) Nora and Lefty Flynn and other famous people.
The public is invited to the meeting at 2:30 p.m. at the museum in Columbus on Walker Street and hear about Tryon in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
This program is free and open to the public.
