Shakespeare in Art Show May 24 – June 7

Tryon Painters and Sculptors will host a show themed “Shakespeare in Art” May 24 – June 7 at their Gallery and Studios located at 26 Maple Street in downtown Tryon. The show is open to all artists in all media and will feature artist’s creations inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
Just the title of some of his plays: Much Ado About Nothing, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, King Lear, A Mid Summer Night’s Dream, Antony & Cleopatra, Twelfth Night, Macbeth, All’s Well That Ends Well, Othello, Julius Caesar, The Tempest, A Winter’s Tale, Cymbeline, As You Like It, Pericles and Two Gentleman of Verona conjure up images replete with Kings, Queens, Moors, fairies, elves, knights, ships, ladies and gentleman of the court, gardens, plants, flowers, fruit, costumes, day and night, food, forests, and architecture, as well as period landscapes and seascapes. There’s music and movies and a myriad of other interesting subject matter as well.
“Shakespeare in Art” will feature works by local and regional artists in a variety of media. Entries for the show will be accepted Monday May 19th 10am to 3pm. An opening reception will be held Saturday, May 24th 5pm to 7pm. Refreshments will be served. The show is open to the public and is sponsored by The Polk County Library and Polk County Community Foundation.
