St. Luke’s Hospital wants you to “Spring into a Healthy Summer”

Area residents should mark their calendars to “Spring into a Healthy Summer!” – a day full of events to get you and your family moving towards fun and good health.
Make plans to attend the free community health fair. Find out what services are available in our community, gather great information, and take advantage of free health screenings. There will be a bounce house for the kids, tours of an ambulance, the smokehouse from the fire department, bookmobile tours, a dental puppet show, free healthy snacks, information and a whole lot more.
The free health and information fair will be Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. – noon, on the Courthouse lawn in Columbus. (Raindate will be Saturday, June 7.)
To date, the agencies participating include: Adawehi, Atlantic Bay Company, The Blood Connection, Carolina Chiropractic, Collins Dental Center, DSS, EMS, Family Preservation Services, Foothills Humane Society, Hospice, Kid Senses, Lake Lure Classical Academy, Lions Club, Polk Fit, Fresh & Friendly, Polk County Library, Polk County Transportation, Polk Health Dept., Polk Wellness Center, Polk County Recreation Department, Season’s Home Care , Smoky Mtn. Center, Steps to Hope, Sunny View Fire & Rescue, Thermal Belt and many more.
Kids Senses, the children’s museum in Rutherfordton, will present the Human Dynamo program, which focuses on not only dental but other health-related subjects for children.
There will also be a DJ, face painting and a bounce house for the kids.
Agencies and services are invited to participate for no charge other than offering a healthy activity for kids by calling 828-894-2408.
This free health and information fair will help you will gain valuable information for yourself and your family and have a better understanding of what healthcare and other services are available in our community.
Other activities planned for “Spring into a Healthy Summer” include:
Eat Healthy –  Browse the Farmers’ Market for fresh local food which will be open from 8 a.m. – noon. Healthy cooking demonstrations will be provided by Polk County Extension Services.
Learn About Health – 9 a.m. – noon, St. Luke’s Hospital and other providers are hosting a community health and information fair (on the Courthouse lawn in Columbus). Free health screenings and fun activities for kids are planned including: a bounce house, tour an ambulance, enter the fire department smokehouse and more.
Go For A Swim 1 – 3 p.m., Polk County Recreation Department will host an open house with free swimming and refreshments while they last at Gibson Park pool.For more information call 828-894-2408.
