The Lake Lure Community Education Foundation (LLCEF) will host the third annual “Raptors Toga 5k and Fun Run” on Saturday, May 17 at 9 a.m. at Morse Park in Lake Lure, N.C. Proceeds will benefit LLCEF and its mission to promote and financially support the expansion of education and sustainable learning in Lake Lure and the surrounding community.
Part of the Rutherford Outdoor Coalition Race Series, this event continues to grow and attracts avid runners and outdoors enthusiasts from Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. “This is always a great time for everyone of all athletic abilities. We also have the fun factor where we dress up in Greek Togas,” explains Race Director Todd Morse.
After the race, there will be refreshments for the runners, medals for age group winners and prizes for the best togas. In addition to the race, runners and their families can stay for Lake Lure Classical Academy’s Annual Spring Fling at Morse Park to enjoy games, bounce houses and a hot dog at the park. There is a cost for Spring Fling food and activities as it is a school fundraiser.
Registration is open online at http://rutherfordoutdoor.org/outdoor-activities/raceseries. The deadline for preregistration is Friday, May 9, in order to guarantee a t-shirt. There is a fee to participate in the 5k. It is an out-and-back, relatively flat course. For more information email raptorstogarun@att.net.
