American Legion Auxiliary Tar Hills Girls State citizen selection

The Polk Unit 250 American Legion Auxiliary in Tryon has selected the citizens who will attend the seventy-fifth session of Tar Heel Girls State, June 15 – 21, 2014 at the Catawba College in Salisbury.
Top N.C. government officials are among the distinguished leaders who address Girls State. In city meetings, the citizens organize their local government. The development of two fictitious political parties including party platforms, campaigns and conventions, culminates with the statewade election of a slate of state officers. Parliamentary procedure is used to conduct all sessions, including legislative assemblies where bills and resolutions are drafted for the General Assembly. The installation of state officers, talent show and Girls State Chorus are highlights of the week’s activities.
Tar Heels Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Department of N.C.
Attending this year’s session are Sarah Phipps and Lindsey Pruette, rising seniors at Polk County High School, and Jordan Bishop of Landrum High School.
