Students at Polk County Middle School work on transplanting vegetables and herbs. Supplies and plants were provided by Columbus Hardware and Tryon Mountain Hardware.
Starter plants were donated by the Vegetable Farm at Cooper Riis.
The project was made possible through a Community Services Block Grant offered by Western Carolina Community Action, with funding provided by the Henderson County Hunger Coalition, Thermal Belt Outreach and local donations.  Throughout the project, students will learn about soil prep, proper planting and caring for plants and harvesting.  Upon completion of the project, students hope to be able to make a pizza and salad with the vegetables and herbs harvested in their own gardens.
