Green Creek Hounds trail rides and hound walks
Published 6:00 pm Sunday, April 6, 2014
Green Creek Hounds would like to invite horseback riding members of the community to explore the world of foxhunting through their spring trail rides and June hound walks. Those interested in learning about Green Creek Hounds can bring a chair, snack to share and something to drink for after the ride. Members will gather and answer questions at that time.
Trail rides will be led by Hunt staff and begin in April. There are fees per ride for non-members. The fees can be put toward a Riding Membership to GCH for the 2014/15 season which begins June 1. Ride fees cannot be applied toward a Social Membership.
Green Creek Hounds territory is private land. It is not open to the public, except by invitation of Green Creek Hounds. Contact a GCH Master to attend a trail ride or hound walk, plus bring along a negative coggins. Helmets are required. These are group rides, led by staff members. No splinter groups allowed.
Hound walks begin on June 5, and will be held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in June. All hound walks begin at 9 a.m. Arrive early enough to be mounted and ready to ride at 9 a.m.
This is a ride behind the huntsman and hounds. It begins as a slow exercise and increases in pace as the month progresses. It is an opportunity to get a new horse used to hounds and being in a large group. All green horse riders and non-members should ride at the back of the group. It is often a single file ride, consisting of woods, meadows, hills and crossing creeks. Bring a chair, snack to share and something to drink for after the ride.
The hound walks are free to all members but there is a fee for non-members. No hound walk fees can be applied to dues. More information can be found at http://www.greencreekhounds.com .
