George Day

George Day, 80 of Vineyard Road, Tryon, NC passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care following a brief illness. A native of Polk County, he was a son of the late L.L. Day and Josie Moore Day. He was married to the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Thompson Day, who passed away in 1992. Mr. Day was also preceded in death by his son George Allen “Butch” Day and an infant son, Stephen Day.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Day served in Germany. He was a talented stone mason, carpenter and mechanic. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and he loved to go trout fishing. Mr. Day cherished, above all things, his family.
Surviving are his daughters Debbie Day Cash (Larry) of Johnson City, Tennessee and Josie Day of the home; special granddaughter Samantha Long (Randy) of Tryon; grandchildren Jennifer and Cory Day of Charlotte, NC, and Jeremy Thompson of Johnson City, TN. The joy of his life in his later years was an especially beloved great-granddaughter Dakota Long. Great-granddaughters Makayla and Alyssa Day, three sisters, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be announced in The Bulletin at a later date.
