Sylvia Villarreal Bryson and Tim Bryson will be among those performing at the Parkinson’s Benefit Concert on Saturday, April 5.
Tim Bryson is a native of Brevard, N.C. If you happen to run into him there you likely wouldn’t suspect he’d been anywhere else. His family has lived thereabouts for as long as anyone can remember. Down-to-earth, humorous and unassuming, he’s married to Sylvia Villarreal Bryson, a European operatic soprano who has sung roles all over the globe. She was based in Florence, Italy. Tim, a versatile brass player, played tuba in the opera orchestra led, by Riccardo Muti, of Philadelphia Orchestra fame.
Sylvia was raised in San Antonio, Texas. Early on it was obvious she was headed for significant success. Like it or not, the only sign of it now is when, occasionally, she’s caught doing what she’s really good at, a rare and delightful opportunity.
How then, did these reclusive artistic talents meet? That would be the exclusive, tuition-free establishment funded by the Zimbalist family of Philadelphia. They were students there. And why Tim? Because he’s really smart—and he could switch to tuba. That was the only opening for lower brass in 1967 at Curtis Institute of Music.
Nowadays, Tim s taken up another horn—of the French persuasion. Nothing new
here. Except he’s also arranged some great tunes for the soprano and horn trio you’ll be hearing.
Tim knows support groups and their importance firsthand, having outdistanced cancer since 2005. Thus, the Bryson’s of Brevard will add their carefully hidden renown to the Parkinson’s Benefit Concert entitled “Mary Meyers and Friends” on Saturday, April 5 at 4 p.m. at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.
Donate if possible; the Parkinson’s Support Groups really need you.
