Free concert at Polk County Public Library: New 5 Cent Band

Published 5:54 pm Tuesday, April 1, 2014

The Heart Songs Music Series sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Polk County Public Library presents The New 5 Cents Band on Thursday April 3, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. This band has been together for about 4 years, but each member has experience playing with several other groups. They play a variety of new and standard bluegrass and country ballads. They have performed at many festivals, stores and restaurants, and radio and private engagements; they recently played for a packed house at Isothermal Community College.

Band members are: Richard Jolly from Forest City, N.C., plays guitar and sings baritone; Bret Setzer from Burke County, N.C., sings lead baritone, tenor and plays banjo; and Billie and Russ Jordon are from Green Creek, N.C. Russ Jordon plays mandolin, sings bass and does the emcee work. Billie Jordon sings tenor and lead vocals, and plays the upright bass.

Many folks are curious about the name of the band. It comes from an old fiddle tune that honored the release of a newly minted nickel years ago. This band is refreshing and has a large fan following, so come for the fun Thursday evening.
