Always an exciting night of track and field, the 53rd Annual Men’s and 20th Annual Women’s running of the WHKP Relays went well into the chilly night of March 20 at North Henderson’s track. Polk loaded its A-Teams in the traditional races in hopes of reaching qualifying standards for 2A Regionals.
Polk’s 3200 Meter Relay team (Jacob Wolfe, Caleb Brown, Eli Hall, Sean Doyle) would not disappoint, surpassing the Regional target of 8:50 with a time of 8:40.56 placing third overall.  The Men’s 1600 Meter Relay (Jacob Collins, Doyle, Matthew Darden, C. Brown) placed third ending up just short of the 3:38.0 qualifying mark with a 3:38.96.
Several other non-traditional events are offered at the Relay only event, and all competitor marks and times are tallied together for an overall 3-person score.
Polk’s two highest finishes in the meet came in the Men’s Long Jump and Distance Medley.  Reece Schlabach, Anthony Carson and Will Spencer combined for 55-1.5 to give Polk its only win.  The DMR (Wolfe, Collins, Doyle, C. Brown) placed second behind TC Roberson High with an 11:22.78.
Mitchell Brown lead the Men’s Team 1600 Meter Run Team Race to a ninth place finish along with teammates, Price Marshall, Alex Franklin and Isaias Akers.
Shuttle Hurdle Relay (Anthony Marino, Storm Wheeler, Chandler Patrick, Stephen Stimac) sixth 1:21.
4×100 Relay (Akers, Patrick, Dalvin Littlejohn, Chase Underwood) 52.31 ninth place.
4×200 Relay (Darden, Anthony Carson, Reece Schlabach, Wheeler) 1:38 fifth place.
Sprint Medley (Wheeler, Patrick, Dubois Miller, Littlejohn) fifth 1:50.
1600 Meter Medley (Carson, Schlabach, Hall, M. Brown) third 4:03.
High Jump (Darden Littlejohn, C. Brown) seventh 5-04.
Pole Vault (Marino, Marshall, Spencer) second 16-06.
Triple Jump (Collins, Donte Poston, Spencer) fourth 104-4.5.
Shot Put (DJ Twitty, JC Suddeth, Alex Leake) third 118-03.
Discus (Suddeth, Stimac, Leake) fourth 304-01.
The Lady Wolverines posted a 4:30.45 in the 4×400 Meter Relay (Autumn Miller, Savannah Robbins, Colleen Burke, India Godlock) finishing second behind TC Roberson, just .45 shy of the qualifying mark.
1600 Team Race (Jessica Bailey, AnaMarie Gunderson, Danielle Holtz, Emma Wagoner) fifth.
4×100 (Sabryn Mullins, Lindy Desmaris, Marissa Longshore, Leah Hardin) eighth 1:01.
4×200 (Miller, Robbins, Burke, India Branham) eighth 1:59.
4×800 (Godlock, Shea Wheeler, Hardin, Lacee Keller) sixth 11:19.
Sprint Medley (Gunderson, Holtz, Wagoner, Mullins) sixth 2:21.
Distance Medley (Shelby Wells, Longshore, Hardin, Selena Chavez) fifth 15:48.
1600 Meter Medley (Erica Metcalf, Annie Eargle, Erica Sullivan, Keller) eighth 5:38.
High Jump (Robbins, Longshore, Burke) sixth 8-10.
Long Jump (Longshore, Wheeler, Burke) fourth 38-07.
Shot Pu (Tameeia Brown, Michaela Nelon, Maggie Silvers) fourth 75-06.
Discus (Brown, Nelon, Wheeler) fifth 194-08.
TC Roberson would sweep the meet winning both the men’s and women’s competition.
Boys scores: Roberson 112, AC Reynolds, Polk 63, Asheville 55, West Henderson 43, East Henderson 36, Hendersonville 33, Christ School 22, North Henderson 21, Madison 10.
Girls scores: Roberson 130, AC Reynolds 108.5, West 52.5, Asheville 50, East Henderson 47, Polk 25, Hendersonville 25, North Henderson 12, Carolina Day 6.
