Polk County High School students plan and plant

Polk County High School students have begun transplanting seedlings for the Tryon Garden Club’s Growing to Learn, Learning to Grow project.
Besides planting seeds, the students have been planning the garden space and researching plants that will grow well. The plan includes an herb gardena butterfly and bee garden and a native plant garden.
Although the weather has been wintry, the high school students have been working hard with their teacher, Maria Freeman in the classroom and greenhouse preparing for the garden. The plants will be transplanted into Tryon Elementary School’s garden sometime in April.
Community members from the Tryon Garden Club have been involved in the project raising money, loaning resources and consulting. Henson’s Building Supply donated the seeds, and funds were raised when local artists partnered with the Tryon Garden Club for their 85th anniversary celebration in which art inspired by Pearson’s Falls was auctioned. The Tryon Garden Club owns and operates Pearson’s Falls in Saluda.
