Salkehatchie Summer Service is a pioneering servant ministry at selected sites in South Carolina involving high school and college age youth, adult community leaders and persons of different cultures in upgrading housing, which motivates community cooperative efforts by helping persons to help themselves and provides all participants with opportunities for personal growth and service.

The Landrum United Methodist Church (LUMC) group plans to send 15-20 youth and adults to Chester, SC in June to work on houses in the area that need renovations.

This will be the 15th year that the Landrum church has participated in this mission program. During the week, they work on multiple sites and are housed and fed by the churches in the Chester area.

The key fundraiser activity for this project will be an Italian dinner and auction held at the church on March 29 starting at 6 p.m.

After the meal, the highlight of the evening will be the basket auction. Items up for bid in the past have ranged from Braves and Panthers tickets to a famous homemade pound cake to a variety of baskets for any and all interests.

This year the LUMC youth ventured to downtown Landrum looking for donations of items for the sale. The church appreciates the support of Treasures Old & New, Main Street Salon, NAPA of Landrum, Lucy’s Boutique, Landrum Antiques and Country Collectibles for donations of items to be auctioned.

All proceeds from ticket sales will be used to support the youth mission program. Contact the church office at 864-457-3984 or Nancy Boatwright at 864-608-3055 for more information.
