Hospice volunteers learn aging awareness

Volunteer trainees at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills receive 16 hours of training from HoCF staff that prepares them to be of excellent service to hospice patients and families.

One exercise that really helps is a first-hand experience on how older patients and family members might be facing life’s challenges of aging.

This aging awareness program simulates challenges that older adults may have with eyesight, hearing, smell, taste and dexterity. According to volunteer services manager Jean Pearson, the trainees agree.

“It is quite eye-opening to understand in a new way the impact that aging has on abilities we take for granted,” Pearson said.
