Parron to speak on America’s quilts at Landrum Library

Suzi Parron, author of a best-selling book on America’s quilt trails, will present a program at the Landrum Library on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
She found her passion and life’s work when her love of travel led to the discovery of a barn quilt trail in Kentucky six years ago. “Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement” was written in cooperation with quilt trail founder Donna Sue Groves of Ohio and published in 2012.
Parron will share photographs and stories from her book and why she believes our quilting heritage is taking on new meaning through the spread of rural and urban quilt trails.
South Carolina’s first – the Upstate Heritage Quilt Trail – winds through Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties with more than 100 quilt blocks. Landrum’s Foothills Quilt Trail, the state’s second trail, has 21 quilt blocks hanging in the city and one in Gowensville.
This year Parron, who is researching her second book, will travel extensively from her home in Georgia to California seeking out the rich stories and quilt block art along the many quilt trails now found in 46 states.
During her visit to Landrum, Parron will learn more about the Foothills Quilt Trail and will speak at the February meeting of the Landrum Quilters.
Parron will have books available for sale and signing at the library. Her program, of interest to history buffs and quilters, is sponsored by Friends of the Landrum Library and quilting friends.
