The Landrum Varsity Basketball teams will host a fundraiser at Panera Bread, 108 E. Blackstock Rd., at Westgate in Spartanburg on February 10 from 4-8 p.m. The proceeds will benefit a fund set up at First Citizens Bank in Landrum in memory of Collin Wessinger.
Michael Collin Wessinger, 17, a junior at Landrum High School, died from injuries he suffered in a single vehicle crash while driving home in the evening on Jan. 6.
The incident occurred in a sharp curve on Landrum Mill Road.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Collin’s family during this difficult time,” Landrum High School Principal Brian Sherman said in a written statement released by Spartanburg School District 1. “Our students and faculty have lost a wonderful young man and our hearts are very heavy today.”
This fund has been set up to help students and families affected by auto accidents. To participate, anyone may obtain flyers from the high school and present them when they make purchases at Panera Bread during the fundraiser.
Panera Bread will contribute 10 percent of sales, said Dave Johnston, manager of Panera Bread, and if 50 or more people participate with flyers, Panera Bread will contribute 20 percent of the sales from those orders.
