Valentine’s Day brings to mind greatest love

Valentine’s Day is just  weeks away and for some reason, my thoughts have strolled down memory lane to the old grammar school, L.O. Foose Elementary.

We used to exchange Valentine’s Day cards in the classroom.  We made mail pouches by pasting construction paper together on three sides, printed our names on them, and classmates dropped their cards into them.

They were not the nice cards from Hallmark or American Greeting but the cheap, flimsy ones that came in packets of multiples from the dime store. There were obviously duplications since everybody exchanged the same kind of cards, but we gave no thought to that back then.

While I’m on the subject of cards, do you remember the slogan Hallmark used to promote their product?

“When you care enough to send the very best” you of course send a Hallmark card. That slogan’s not a bad summation of what I like to think of as God’s Valentine, John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (KJV).

“God so loved the world….” that’s you and me and everybody else, bar none. He loves us all. And the most amazing thing about the way He loves us is as someone has said, “God loves each one of us as if there were only one of us to love.”

Furthermore, “God so loved the world that he gave….” God has so much love for us that He has given to us. What has He given us? “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son….” When you have the kind of love God has for us, you give only the very best you have to give.

Then too ,when you give,  the very best gift given is the one which is carefully chosen with the person to whom it is to be given in mind.

God could have given no better gift than the enduring and qualitative life He gives us through His Son.

“God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Valentine’s Day is just weeks away. It is an occasion for us to express our love for that special someone by doing something out of the ordinary.

Maybe a well chosen Valentine’s Day card, a box of chocolates or dinner and a movie will do it for you. Or perhaps just a quiet evening at home and some quality time spent with your loved one is more your style.

Whatever, make this Valentine’s Day really special for the one you love. Also, don’t forget the Valentine from the one who loves you more than anyone else in all the world.
