Award winning watercolorist/artist Linda Gotsch McGregor is instructor for watercolor techniques, an ongoing class for beginning and intermediate artists sponsored by the Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild.

A new series of Tuesday classes begins Feb. 4 at the Rutherford County Visual Arts Center, 160 N. Main Street, Rutherfordton, N.C.

McGregor is an impressionistic painter who uses landscapes and seascapes as subjects for her own work. She earned a bachelor of fine art from the University of Georgia and has worked as a graphic designer and as an art teacher in both New York and North Carolina.

She has a love of on-site painting and passion for impressionism she says were learned at the university and from artist friends.

While she has worked in oils as well as watercolor, she particularly enjoys watercolor because of the “delicate colors and the challenges of the medium”.

“I have found that oils do not allow me to modulate the use of colors and create the mood or to change it without destroying the essence of the piece I am painting.” McGregor added. “Students in this class will not only learn the basics of watercolor but also the principles of painting in this medium. Those beginning with watercolor or the intermediate watercolorist will find this class of interest.”

McGregor is a member of Tryon Painters & Sculptors, Artists Guild of Spartanburg, and Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild. She is an emeritus member of the Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild and previously served as Art Director or the Visual Arts Center.  Her work has been exhibited at Kings Mt. Art Center, Tryon Painters and Sculptors Gallery, Rauch Gallery, The Frame House Gallery, Buffalo Creek Gallery, Spartanburg Art Museum and the Visual Arts Center in Rutherfordton, N.C.
