Making people move a certain way can be a challenge, especially when those people have never moved that way before. And especially when some have joints and arthritis to consider, and most especially when dancers have to balance a bottle on their head while doing said moves.
Sonya Monts is director of The Dancers Extension in Saluda (www.thedancers-ext.com), teaching ballet, pointe, jazz and contemporary dance.
“Jerome Robbins, the original choreographer of Fiddler on the Roof, has always been an inspiration for me, and I wanted to try something that is known as one of his greatest works.
I usually teach children, so working with grown men is definitely different, but I’m having a good time and hope they are too!”
If you want to see some coordinated and fleet-footed guys strutting their stuff, don’t miss TLT’s “Fiddler on the Roof” at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, opening Feb. 20. Call 828-859-2466 or visit www.tltinfo.org for more information.
