A fire weather watch is in effect from the morning of Saturday, Jan. 25 through the afternoon for wind and low relative humidity, according to the National Weather Service.
The watch was issued for the foothills and piedmont of western North Carolina, upstate South Carolina and much of the extreme northeast Georgia.
Winds are forecast to increase through the day on Saturday, with relative humidity values becoming critical during the afternoon. Winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts of up to 30 to 40 mph are expected, especially in the afternoon.
Humidity is expected at 20 to 25 percent during the afternoon.
“The combination of dry vegetation, low relative humidity and gusty winds will create conditions favorable for the development and spread of wildfires,” states an alert issued on Friday, Jan. 24 by accuweather.com.
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.
