Cardinals defeat Bulldogs 68-56

The Landrum High School Varsity boys’ basketball team made a comeback Tuesday night after their recent four game losing streak. The Cardinals defeated the Pendleton Bulldogs 68-56. The Cardinals lead for the majority of the game.
Never ending a period with less than a double digit led. The score grew closer as the Bulldogs made a run at victory in the fourth. However, the Bulldogs failed to hold through back and forth scoring of the last period. The Cardinals secured their third region win and their eighth win on the season.
“I thought it was very sloppy on both parts. I didn’t think either teams played very good, but we were lucky enough to win the ball game so I’m happy about that,” head coach Lynn Smith said.
Senior Trevor Walker led the team with 18 points. Close behind was senior Jonah Corn who scored 15 points. Senior Joey Thomas put 13 points on the board and also led the team with 10 rebounds.
The Lady Cardinals suffered a close loss on Tuesday night. The Pendleton Lady Bulldogs defeated the Cardinals 57-48. The Lady Cardinals made a large comeback to finish within nine points after being down 23 points at the end of the third period. The loss brings the girls’ record to 5-2 in their region and 7-5 this season.
Both teams will travel to Powdersville to face the Patriots Friday, Jan. 24. The girls game will begin at 6:30 pm. Boys will follow at 7:30 pm.
