Columbus Lions learn about Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry

Anna McClure, Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry (TBOM) volunteer coordinator, recently spoke to the Columbus Lions Club.
McClure said the need for volunteers has grown along with the increased need for services in Polk County.
An example is the Feed-A-Kid Program. This program began in 2008 as a way to provide nutritious food to children who are at risk of hunger because of a lack of food in the home. Volunteers are currently needed to load backpacks with food items that are distributed to 338 children every week.
Also needed are receptionists who greet clients, coordinate files and assist with office duties; interviewers who gather information to properly care for clients’ needs; clerical/administrative staff with good computer skills; and pantry assistants who stock shelves and help clients select from TBOM’s pantry. Physically fit volunteers are needed to help unload food deliveries and to split and rack wood. McClure encouraged members of service organizations, such as the Lions, to volunteer with Outreach either as a group or as individuals. She can be reached at anna.mcclure@tboutreach.org or at 828-894-2899.
The Lions demonstrated their appreciation for McClure’s work by presenting her with their Lions Roar award.
The Columbus Lions meet on the first and third Thursday evenings at Calvert’s Restaurant in Columbus, and they encourage anyone interested in community service to visit with them.
