Robert Edward Cantrell, 89, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord Jan. 7, 2014.
He was the son of the late Nathan Edward and Maggie Etta Hughes Cantrell and husband of the late Sallie L. Price Cantrell.
He was retired from Hatch Mill and was a member of Green Creek First Baptist Church. He served in the US Army during WWII earning the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the DAV and a member of the Columbus Lions Club. He loved woodworking.
He is survived by a son, Robert David Cantrell of Green Creek; two daughters, Connie Jean Gilbert of Boiling Springs, S.C. and Patricia A. Cantrell of Inman, S.C.; a sister, Marie Stevens of Michigan; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by six sisters and a brother.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014f at Green Creek First Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the church conducted by Dr. Don McIntyre, Rev. Allen McKinney and Dr. Larry Gregg.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of Robert Cantrell, 225 Green Creek Dr., Columbus, NC.
