Friendship Council sponsors Creative Arts Competition

The Thermal Belt Friendship Council will sponsor a Creative Arts Competition for area middle and high school students in conjunction with the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration set for Saturday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. Information on the competition is as follows:
Categories: Poetry, Art, Musical/Oratorical
Awards (for each separate category): First Place – $75; Second Place – $50; and Third Place – $25.
Contest rules: All entries must be submitted by Jan. 6, 2014 to Langlee Garrett at Polk County Middle School, Jeff Phillips at Landrum Middle School, Cindi Rhodes at Polk County High School or Penny Cardell at Landrum High School.
All entries must be the participant’s original work. Participants must follow guidelines for the category in which he/she enters.
Essay: How does Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream affect your life today?
Art: A depiction of Dr. King’s philosophy in relation to images of the struggle for civil rights that demonstrates how his life empowered people to reach for the dream.
Musical/Oratorical: Selections should demonstrate “Living the Dream.”
