A Campobello-Gramling school custodian was found early Monday, Dec. 16 in his home beaten, according to reports.
Tom Wilkins worked as a custodian at Campobello-Gramling for decades and still volunteers there.
His brother, Douglas Wilkins, who shares the home, said he got home Sunday night and assumed Tom Wilkins had gone to sleep early, so it was Monday morning before Douglas Wilkins found his brother lying on his bedroom floor beaten with his wallet missing.
The school put out a statement Wednesday, Dec. 18 calling Tom Wilkins the school’s “most treasured volunteer.”
The school sent its well wishes and prayers and said it hopes to see him back at school soon.
Wilkins was in the intensive care unit at Spartanburg Regional Hospital this week.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Officers are waiting for Tom Wilkins’ health to improve so he can provide more information on the incident.
