To the editor:

I enjoyed Gina Malone’s article in the Hendersonville Times-News about the Teddy Bear that included The Bulletin’s Curb Reporter drawing by Cliff Berryman.

I was a boy working for Seth Vining Sr. when he was pleased to replace the stock cut he had been using with Berryman’s drawing of the “curb reporter” to top the front page column of late-breaking news items.

Many years later I began to buy plants for my yard from Berryman’s Nursery in Newport News, Virginia.

I told Berryman one day that I thought his name appropriate for a purveyor of plants and that the only other Berryman I knew of was the Washington editorial cartoonist.

When he told me that was his brother, I gave him a copy of the Bulletin on my next visit.
