The Community Chorus began rehearsals weeks ago for its annual Christmas concert, and this year, the focus is on family.

Director Lesley Bush selected Christmas songs from favorite family movies such as Mame, White Christmas and Home Alone.

The program, accompanied once again by Pam McNeil, includes a round of Christmas carols and will end with “Gloria” by Randol Alan Bass.

In addition to movies about family, the performance includes various family combinations. For example, a number of couples are singing; Dot and Richard Kennedy, Pat and Brian Grimwood, Elizabeth and John Gardner, Dee and John Bunn Sandra and Mark Sibly. Sisters, Priscilla Yeager and Libby Boone, sing alongside each other.

Tena Green Porter has convinced her daughter, Alexis Porter, to join her for a joyous family afternoon in the midst of the rush to Christmas Day. Community members are encouraged to bring their families to Polk County High School on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. to hear the Community Chorus.

Tickets are available from members of the Rotary Club of Tryon and at Scoops’n More Ice Cream in Columbus, The Knitter’s Nest in Landrum and The Bookshelf in Tryon.

They will also be available at the door on the day of the performance. All proceeds go to the Rotary Club of Tryon Scholarship Fund.
