FMC performs in a sanctuary to remember

The Foothills Music Club joyfully continued the celebration of its 25th year by having some of its members perform at the historic Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The free, hour-long concert was in front of a completely full sanctuary and narthex of 115 people.
The sacred music program, well planned by member Jeanette Comer, was varied in performers, instruments, and content of pieces from Bach to Southern Gospel.
Performers were Jeri Board (soprano), Jeanette Comer (soprano and soprano recorder), Elizabeth Gardner (classical guitar), John Gardner (organ), Susie Mahnke (piano), Wanda May (soprano), Jeanette Shackelford (piano), Nancy Walburn (organ) and Meryt Wilson (piano).
The spirit of one of FMC’s founding members, Betty Van Buskirk, seemed to permeate the church that afternoon. Van Buskirk had been the choir director, pianist and organist for Good Shepherd for many years before her passing. In addition, she was one of the original founding members of the Foothills Music Club, and one of FMC’s three scholarships is named for her.
The reception following the concert, provided by Good Shepherd folks, gave all an opportunity to enjoy another facet of the afternoon event.
Many agree that it is an exciting time to be associated with the Foothills Music Club.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, Jan. 9, 3 p.m., when FMC will have a concert for the public at Isothermal Community College, Polk Campus.
