Tryon Little Theater honors Hettinger with Second Wind nomination

For more than 35 years, the Second Wind Hall of Fame has identified the most dedicated volunteers in this area.
Tryon Little Theater was very happy to sponsor Susan Hettinger for induction into this special group of people.
Hettinger, together with her late husband, Ron, moved to the area in 1989 from Annandale, N.J., and both were very involved in the local community.
For years, Hettinger was active with the Congregational Church and the Women’s Fellowship Christmas fundraiser, helping to host the popular Christmas Doll Tour. She served on the Women’s Fellowship Board of that church, and is currently co-chair of the Caregivers Support Group. She has served the AAUW Board as secretary and hospitality co-chair. She also found time (just short of 1,000 hours’ worth of time) to volunteer in St. Luke’s Hospital Thrift Shop.
Ron Hettinger was very involved on stage in the local theater scene, but Susan found many opportunities to help behind the scenes. She was board secretary for the Foothills Savoyards, as well as ticket chairperson. She has volunteered at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, and last but not least, served on the board of directors for the Tryon Little Theater as vice president and secretary, and as box office chair for over eight years. She is currently on the Sunnydale committee, which oversees the old, historic building of Sunnydale, a venue for community events and private functions, benefitting the not-for-profit Tryon Little Theater.
“We have all benefitted from Susan’s tireless volunteerism over the years, which she has performed with grace and enthusiasm,” said Jody McPherson, past president of TLT. “We are honored to sponsor her for this special acknowledgement, recognizing her tireless efforts.”
