Every single vote counted in the Landrum City Council election last night, as the top three finishers were separated by a single vote.
Randy Wohnig placed first, with 92 votes, according to unofficials results.
“I appreciate the confidence of people who voted for me and I will do everything I can to deserve their support,” Wohnig said. “I feel very humble. I want to give a big thank you to everyone who voted for me.”
Billy Inman, with 91 votes, won another term on council and was joined by Tammy Wells Cox, with 90 votes. Savannah Martin’s vote total did not place her in the top three, according to poll workers.
One write-in candidate, Christopher Chestnutt, also did not receive enough votes to receive a position on the council.
Voters cast 195 ballots in Landrum, which represented 7 percent of the total possible voters, said Margaret Howard, poll worker.
Sixty-four of those voters resided in the county and 131 of those voters resided in the town of Landrum, she said.
The voters also chose five of eight candidates for positions with School District 1.
Brian Keim received the most votes in Landrum, with 140. Voting was fairly even among the other candidates. Ronnie Blackwell, Mark Rollins, Henry T. Gramling and Harry R. MacMillan were the top Landrum vote-getters, followed by Michael D. Smith, Mark Holden and Don Denton.
The race was too close to call and results from neighboring precincts will determine the outcome, with final results available in the Thursday, Nov. 6 edition of the Bulletin.
Write-in candidates Heather Chestnut, Christopher Chestnut and Gordin Lee did not receive enough votes to prevail.
