“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
The steak dinner that will be served up on Wednesday by the United Methodist Men in Tryon is likely to look a lot like the one that was first served over four decades ago: ribeye steaks, baked potatoes, rolls, salads, beverages and dessert – it’s a time-tested menu.
The men can’t take sole credit for the desserts.
For years, mostly the women of the church have provided the sweet ending to the meal, each of whom contributes a family favorite to share. The challenge comes in deciding which to choose.
The tradition involves more than meals. It has been a time when friends throughout Polk County have an opportunity to visit and catch up, whether it’s sitting down over dinner or stopping by early to pick up a meal to go.
Meals and take-outs will be served in the Fellowship Hall from 5-7:30 p.m. Children’s plates and take-outs will also be available.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at Cowan’s Hardware, Owen’s Pharmacy, the Columbus Flower Cottage and the church office. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
For more information, call the church at 828-859-9218.
