Frank Allen Churchill died Saturday Oct. 5, 2013 in Tryon.

Allen, age 93, was born to Minnie Estelle and Frank Gerald Churchill in Detroit, Mich. He married Phyllis Griggs in 1943.

Al joined the Army during WWII and was stationed in Montana where he was an engine mechanic for the Air Force. In civilian life, Al worked in sales, selling cars and industrial equipment.

He was a Mason and played tuba with the Shriners in marches and in community concerts.

For many years, Phyllis and Al lived in Milford, Mich. After retirement, they moved to Etowah, N.C. and then to Tryon, where they remained active in community events.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; son, Greg; and brother, Lu Churchill. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Helen Gurley and Eleanor Bannister; nephew, David Churchill (Diane), nephews-in-law Robert Bannister and David (Debbie) Bannister; nieces-in-law, Nancy (Arnold) Dzick, Helen Mudry, Susan (Michael) Loveman and Collette Mak; cousins-in law, Alice Rennalls and Byron Carpenter, as well as great- and great-great-nephews and nieces.
