RJ Reeves is a resident at Mill Farm Inn, directly across the street from where the wreck occurred. Reeves said she was preparing for bed when she heard the commotion.

“I heard it coming – I heard the sirens and this terrible crunch,” Reeves said. “The police were chasing the car and the person must have thought the road went straight there. You can see the skid marks.”

Jackson, 20, was arrested and charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, failure to heed blue light and siren, reckless driving, speeding 90 mph in a 45 mph zone, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jackson was released from the Polk County jail on a written promise to appear and had his first court appearance on Oct. 4.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the wreck.

The Columbus Police Department was assisted by the Tryon Police Department and Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
