“Life Chain” demonstration in Tryon Oct. 6

Published 6:33 pm Wednesday, October 2, 2013

On Sunday, Oct. 6, from 2-3 p.m., the community is invited to join the second annual “Life Chain” on Trade Street in Tryon.

Though this is only the second year for the pro-life demonstration in Tryon, this peaceful prayer vigil for life has been held in cities across the United States since 1987. Last year, there were “Life Chains” held in more than 1,500 cities in more than 1,700 locations.

Participants will pray silently on the sidewalk while holding signs with phrases such as: “Adoption: The Loving Option,” “Jesus Forgives and Heals,” “Abortion Kills Children” and “Life – The First Inalienable Right.”

“Here in Tryon, like in any city, it is important for us to raise awareness regarding the rights of the defenseless, the voiceless, the most vulnerable in our midst,” said Fr. John Eckert of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. “This event is not intended to be a harsh condemnation, but a call to witness to the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death.”

The church asks community members to consider joining them for one hour on Oct. 6 as they pray for an end to abortion.
