Kick off your weekend in Saluda Friday, Aug. 23, with a free concert by Saluda’s native Aaron Burdett, and his band. Concert starts at 6:30 p.m. following the Saluda Tailgate Market.

Enjoy dining and shopping on Main Street as shops extend their open hours to 8 p.m. Burdett writes and performs Americana music blending folk-rock, bluegrass and blues into a new sound that is original and comfortably familiar. He is a regular performer on the music scene in the Asheville and Upstate South Carolina areas.

“This is the perfect opportunity to show your support and pride for Saluda’s performing artists, and a chance to hear award-winning Aaron Burdett in your own backyard,” said Cathy Jackson, one of the organizers.

In October of 2012, Burdett’s song, “Going Home to Carolina,” won Our State Magazine’s “Carolina Songs” songwriting contest, outshining more than 250 other competitive entries.

In May, 2013, Aaron’s song, “Magpie,” won third place bluegrass song in the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest, one of the largest and most highly regarded music festivals in the United States for traditional, bluegrass, Americana and singer-songwriter artists. Burdett’s fifth studio album is expected in October of 2013, and features a who’s who of favorite regional artists.

All performances will be held on center stage from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. at McCreery Park in the area that was previously the skateboard park or in the Pavilion if it is raining.
