T.J. Shimeld of Fli-Rite Learning performed his show “Dig into the Past” at the Polk County Public Library on July 9 and the Saluda Community Library on July 10. Attendees learned about ancient Egypt, mummies, pharaohs and the five simple machines through storytelling, magic and puppetry.
The next children’s event for the Summer Reading Program will be movie night. Come watch the film “Holes” (rated PG) and enjoy popcorn and drinks at the main library in Columbus Thursday, July 18 at 5:30 p.m.
Summer reading program children’s events will continue for three more weeks at the Polk County Public Library. Upcoming events include Professor Whizzpop’s “The Really Big Bookworm Dig,” featuring magic and balloon art; family friendly rock band Big Bang Boom; and a picnic at Harmon Field. Registration is required for the picnic.
Children of all ages can also register for the summer reading program and receive a reading log and other goodies. Kids can then bring their reading logs in every week for a sticker and turn them in at the end of the summer to receive a prize. One lucky reader will also win the grand prize: a $50 gift certificate to The Book Shelf in Tryon.
