Ruth O’Shields Crocker

Mrs. Ruth O’Shields Crocker, widow of Arthur W. Crocker Jr., of 801 E. Main St., Union S.C., passed away Saturday, June 29 2013 at Wallace Thomson hospital.
Mrs. Crocker was born in Union, a daughter of the late William Berry O’Shields and Martha (Mattie) Jones O’Shields. She was a graduate of Union High School and Robinson’s Business College in Spartanburg.
Mrs. Crocker began her career working as the first receptionist for WBCU Radio and then worked in the finance department of United Merchants Union Plant. Later, Mrs. Crocker was co-owner of Economy Office Supply, where she retired.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church and a devoted supporter of missionary works both local and abroad. Mrs. Crocker was a talented musician having played for the primary department at her church and for the youth programs at Green Street Methodist Church and West Side Baptist Church. She also was honored and enjoyed playing for weddings and revivals.
Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Ann Jones Crocker Carmichael and husband, Randy, of Walterboro, S.C. and Jane Elizabeth Crocker of Union, S.C.; a son, David William Crocker of Landrum; and a granddaughter, Catherine O’Shields Carmichael of Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Crocker was predeceased by two sisters, Grace O’Shields and Erlene O’Shields Brady and husband Rev. R. R. Brady.
