Alvin “Marve” Silsbe, 87, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013 in the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, S.C.
Born in 1925 and raised in the Detroit, Mich. area, he proudly served our country during WWII on a submarine in the South Pacific; successfully completing two patrols. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Dorothy LaFromboise. Together, they raised three children in the Downriver area of Detroit, Mich. He worked in the steel industry, first as an electrician, and finally as a plant engineer in charge of maintenance, new construction and productivity. In retirement, they lived first in Michigan, and then in central Florida, before claiming Polk County as their home in 1999. He has worshipped our Lord at Sandy Plains ARP and at Philadelphia Presbyterian Churches.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2008 and son-in-law Chuck Huber in 2012. He is survived by their son Donald (Terri), of Tryon; son Michael (Wanda), of Arden, NC; and daughter Nancy Huber, of Dublin, Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren Amy and Scott Silsbe (Don) and Matt and Mark Huber (Nancy) and his treasured four-legged companion, Lucy.
The family will receive friends from 5–7 p.m. Monday, June 3, at the Petty Funeral Home, Landrum, S.C. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, June 4, at 10 a.m. at Sandy Plains Church, officiated by Pastor Jim Mitchell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
