Don Lyons was a recent inductee into the Second Wind Hall of Fame. He was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tryon. Lyons is a former president of Rotary and, at different times, has chaired both the club’s Shrimpfest fundraiser event and the Honor Air program to take local veterans to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington. An active horseman, he was a leader in organizing the Polk County Mounted Police unit. Lyons is a long time elder in the Tryon Presbyterian church and chair of the property committee.

A native of Philadelphia, Don served eight years in the Marine Corps, then joined the city police ranks for 15 years, before finishing his career as the Director of Corporate Security for Sunoco Oil Co. Don and his wife, Peggy, retired to the Thermal Belt area in 2004 to a horse farm in Green Creek. He has two daughters and four grandsons in the Philadelphia area.
