Tryon Fine Arts Center will present Do-it-Yourself Messiah on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
American composer, singer, author and Tryon resident Dr. Mark Schweizer will conduct portions of Handel’s masterpiece for the enjoyment of singers and non-singers alike in the community.
Dr. Schweizer, locally beloved as conductor of the Community Chorus, has taught in colleges and universities.
He has founded, directed and performed in regional opera companies across the country, in solo recital, and in oratorio including appearing as the bass soloist with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
Schweizer currently lives in Tryon where he serves as director of St. James Music Press.
His published musical compositions include anthems, larger choral works, instrumental compositions and a children’s opera “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” an operatic in-formance featured on NBC Nightly News.
