Officers of the Polk County Retired Schools Personnel attended the District 1 fall meeting in Macon County on Oct. 8. June Atkinson, state superintendent of North Carolina schools was the guest speaker. Atkinson reported the performance of North Carolina students and shared the future vision of public schools in N.C. Polk County Retired Schools Personnel are members of the NEA/NCAE retired division. Meetings are held quarterly and focus on retirement related issues. Members volunteer in schools and civic organizations in the county. The next unit meeting will be held at Bright’s Creek at noon on Nov. 12.
