Absentee voting for Spartanburg County residents

Interested in absentee voting? Find out if you qualify by going to www.scvotes.org. Click on Voters in the upper left corner; then click on absentee voting to see the list of qualifications. You may also visit the voter registration and elections office or call 864-596-2549.
To vote by absentee ballot, a qualified voter or a member of his immediate family must request an application in person, by telephone or by mail. If you qualify, you will then be sent an absentee application which you must sign and return before a ballot can be mailed to you.
Many voters do not understand that an application is required. More than 1,000 application requests had been received as of last week, and officials were anticipating receiving many more.
Ballots should be ready to begin mailing on or about Oct. 1. Mailing takes several days. Remember the application must be requested, completed and received by our office before a ballot can be mailed to you.
Once you receive the actual ballot, make sure you understand and follow all directions in returning the ballot. Absentee ballots must be physically received by the county registration and elections office no later than 7 p.m. on election day in order to be counted.
If you qualify to vote absentee, you may vote by machine in the voter registration and elections office starting Oct. 8, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..
