Sweet Rocco, I haven’t forgotten you

Last week’s tale of Jane reminded me that it was time to pay a little more attention to the Foothills Humane Society. kids. We have plenty of young, capable and reliable staff members at the shelter and this old man is now delegated to the lower level area where I meet new dogs and some with special problems, which by the way is much to my liking. Still, with many outside problems to handle, and except for the time I put aside, I don’t spend too much time with the adoptables. I do check the board often to see how they’re doing, but to tell their stories would simply be redundant.
This week I made the time because one young boy in particular has been on my mind. My heart goes out to all of them as I stroll by and they press their noses against the cage to greet me, “Hi Uncle Lennie.” I tell each one I love them and assure them that everyone is doing the best they can to find them forever homes. I stop by Rocco (the reason for my visit) and notice that he is now with his fifth or sixth cage mate.
Rocco is a medium-sized brindle Boxer mix, about 1 ½ years of age. Many people who have spent time with him, handlers and volunteers, tell me how lovable and smart he is, not to mention he’s handsome as all get out.
